Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon: Wildlands: Fallen Ghosts is the second DLC patch that’s awarded to players who’ve bought the gold edition of Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon Wildlands. This makes an already massive game even more stuffed to the brim with content. It’s like Christmas has come early and true, you’ve paid for it, it has to be said it’s quite satisfying to have a developer actually go out of their way to make DLC that’s actually worth downloading and playing. The review of the main game can be read here while the review for the first DLC: Narco Road can be read here.

So you’ve guided your soldier through the vast armies of the Bolivian drug cartel, all to take it down and to make sure the streets are free of narcotics. You’ve also gone up and above to impress the drug lords and get close to them to close down their networks, making sure the leftovers don’t make it out to the other countries. You feel a sense of relief to know that it’s all done. The military can take over and sweep the remaining thugs off their feet and into jail. That’s how it’s supposed to go. How it isn’t supposed to go is when the military gets it in their heads to take over from the drug cartels and use their networks and their tools to rejuvinate the drug trade. That’s exactly what happens though. A force armed to the teeth called the ‘Extranjeros’ are armored up stronger than any turtle, so you have to go back and take them out. You are to be heli’d in and clean up again. Before you get a chance to land however, a heat seeking rocket takes out the chopper and you crash land. It then becomes apparent that you might have been outgunned and you are in over your head. Too little too late however because now you and your team are forced to go forward for better or for worse.

Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon: Wildlands: Fallen Ghosts differs majorly from the previously released DLC but only slightly more in tone from the main game. Where the main game tried to convey how seriously evil the druglords were, and overshot it, Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon: Wildlands: Narco Road tries to go for the polar opposite and plays like a more fun, less serious version of the main game. The Fallen Ghosts DLC however goes for a more gritty version of the main campaign and actually succeeds in pulling it off. It doesn’t seem like it’s overdoing anything. It feels like the Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon: Wildlands experience the developers wanted players to have in the main campaign.

Gameplay wise there’s a couple of new upgrades, like some new enemy types that are extremely fun to try and get around. There’s the camouflaged enemies and the armored soldiers to name some. There are also some new activities that fill up the map. The map isn’t a vast void for you to march across with nothing to do in it, then again this is Ubisoft we’re talking about. There are new weapons, and two new difficulty settings in case you weren’t down with just the ‘hard’ setting. There’s the Advanced and Expert difficulties. Ready to bite the bullet yet?

When it comes to visuals and sound, that’s where the game doesn’t really shine. Just like in the main campaign, there are quite some audio cock ups and some graphical glitches for some amusing visuals and there’s quite some texture pop-in. Character faces don’t hold up to scrutiny up close making the ‘butter faces’ from Mass Effect: Andromeda look like a joke. Whether or not you give the DLC and the game as a whole a pass on this, is up to you, but keep in mind this game and the added DLC’s are massive.

Conclusion

Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon: Wildlands: Fallen Ghosts is again quite a big helping of sniping, stealthing and shooting things up in the Ghost Recon universe. It seems like Bolivia just can’t get enough of you, and if you were down with the main game and the first DLC then this is just more for you to dive into. If however you weren’t blown away with any of the previous content, then this won’t draw you in either.

First game ever was Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped, ever since then, gaming has been something that I've gravitated to. Reading's fun but not as interactive. Always up for a bout of online multiplayer. If that multiplayer is co-op. So if you are up for a friendly co-op session, hit me up. Rahenik's the name to search on PSN.
