It has been quite long since the days we could store everything on floppy disks, or even burn all our data on a single CD for safekeeping. Now, even a 1TB hard drive is getting small, especially for those who love to game a lot, tend to download a lot of items or even store a lot of pictures. As reviewers of a plethora of games, we know  the hardships of running out of storage room, thus luckily Verbatim gave us the opportunity to try out the 2TB model in their Store ‘n’ Save lineup. We were quite eager to put it to the test.

Design

Well, as expected, there isn’t truly that much to say about the appearance of this external hard drive, safe for the fact it looks good with its pitch black and simplistic design. You’ll be treated to a black lump, with a few design-ish details, such as the gridded top, which looks better than one would expect. Other than that, there’s simply not that much more to tell.

Comfort

As you’ve might have guessed, there isn’t that much to mention about the comfort features either, except for the device being fairly mobile. Nonetheless, there is one small item, that is often overlooked by other brands that simply adds a lot of value to this device, namely the power button, which allows you to shut down the device, without having to unplug it all the time. Again, this may seem like a small feature, it’s simply a great one.

Overview

Verbatim’s device is a matter of plug and play, and you’ll be good to go in a matter of seconds. You’ll notice that Verbatim added a few manuals and applications on the device, to use at your own leisure. While many will probably toss these items aside, it’s still a welcome addition, and it shows that the creators did an effort to add something extra to this external hard drive.

To simply state the obvious so far: Verbatim’s Store ‘n’ Save device pretty much does as it promises, by providing a proper and swift storage space for your files. When dumping files from USB 3.0 to another USB 3.0 device, reaching about 100 MB per second is a rather easy and common feat for this piece of hardware. If you’re stuck with USB 2.0 drives on your PC, you won’t truly notice a difference, as you’re bound to the capabilities of said processing speed.

In all honesty, we could bombard you with a hefty amount of graphs and statistics to see how the device held its own during different situations, but that’s pretty much it: even in different circumstances, the device always circled around the promised specs, thus there is simply not that much we can add by doing so. We also pitted this device against several other products on the market, but it seems many items from proper brands hardly show any difference, safe for the retail price.

Noticeable is that the actual storage room is extremely close to 2TB, which isn’t always the case with other brands. They usually promise a certain amount of space, while in reality a lot is lost.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for an external drive that can store a hefty amount of files for your different PCs, or for your main rig, Verbatim offers a qualitative product, for an affordable price. Small features have properly been embedded on the device, which make the user comfort a lot higher. Certainly worth checking out if you’re running out of room to save all your precious files.
