3D Realms acquired by investors behind Interceptor Entertainment
The gamebusiness is an ever-changing landscape. Studios rise and fall, often faster than you would deem possible. Another route is for firms to be acquired by an investment firm or a different studio. Merges, after all, are common practices.
Most recently 3D Realms, the company behind Duke Nukem 3D – Atomic Edition, the first two Max Payne games and Prey – amongst others – has been acquired by the investment firm behind Interceptor Entertainment, who you might know from the recent Rise of the Triad reboot or Duke Nukem 2 for iOS.
In short: two companies specialising in old school entertainment are going to work more closely together than ever before. Let’s hope the contract lets both firms flourish.
3D Realms recently made the news in a less than promising debate, though, as the company was accused by Gearbox Software of illicit use of the Duke Nukem trademark. That trial might leave a shadow hanging over the merge with the Danish Interceptor Entertainment, although we can only hope gamers will ultimately benefit thanks to plenty of great games.
