UNO – Fenyx’s Quest DLC – Review
UNO might just be one of the most beloved card games in the world. This easy-to-play game is accessible for young and old, and often is a perfect bridge between the different age groups. In the past we have already discussed the base game for Nintendo Switch, but it also available on many other platforms. The digital version has a lot of different themed decks, that revolve around several of Ubisoft’s franchises, such as the Raving Rabbids or Just Dance. Now, a new DLC has been released that is based on Immortals Fenyx Rising. This expansion was dubbed Fenyx’s Quest and is sure to spice up your UNO experience again. Other than a lot of interesting and pretty artwork, this DLC adds new mechanics to the equation.
It’s pointless to completely review UNO again, but if you are unfamiliar with the game, we advise you to check our review of the base game by clicking here. Fenyx’s Quest builds further upon the foundation of UNO, but adds several new elements. You’ll have different ability cards added to the mix, but the key feature of this DLC is the inclusion of the different gods. Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Athena and Ares will all join this legendary battle of cards. Each player will be linked with one of these gods, and upon reaching a certain quota of action cards you have played, you will trigger your respective god’s abilities. These abilities include cursing other players to draw a card each turn as long as they keep their cursed card, or having the option to discard an extra card at random each time you play an ability.
The aforementioned gods and abilities are actually a quite nice concept and do make the games interesting. Nonetheless, the already RNG-based game becomes more random like this, and tactics often completely go out of the window now. If unlucky, you have a cursed card in your hand for 10 turns, which is fatal. At other times, you may exclaim UNO, only to see another player discard 8 cards at once. We barely won any matches against the AI players, which does take back from the overall fun. When playing with other players, however, the playing field seems to be a bit more even.
Conclusion
UNO – Fenyx’s Quest is a fun new DLC for the base UNO experience. While this will probably not entice those who want to keep things simple, it’s an interesting new way to play the game, as it’s a lot more than just adding new art to the cards. If you’re into the themed experience of the other UNO versions, this one is highly recommended. If you are comfortable replaying the base game for the authentic experience, then we are not sure the added RNG will entertain you.
