Back in 2020, we took a look at Granblue Fantasy Versus, which proved to be an amazing fighting game. We truly enjoyed the story, the mechanics, and we simply adored how the game looked. This was truly a gem, with only a few overall remarks that detracted from an otherwise perfect experience. When the game was released, a roster of DLC fighters was announced, adding to the game’s lifespan and, of course, giving the creators and publishers more possibilities to earn a few extra pennies. Now, the Legendary Edition of the game has been released, which is basically the aforementioned base game and the added DLC fighters. For those wanting to learn more about the base experience, be sure to read our original review by clicking here, as we’ll only shortly discuss what makes this version ‘Legendary’.

Truth be told, we could wrap up this already short review with only a few words, as the game has pretty much not changed at all. You’ll still get the same great story to play through and you’ll still have solid mechanics and fun characters to choose from. The Legendary Edition merely adds the DLC characters into the equation, which significantly expands the roster of characters. We did notice that the developers put a lot of time and effort into designing the new characters, as they blend into the amazing-looking whole as if they were there the entire time. It’s also fun that during versus matches, in the opening ‘skits’, the characters properly interact with each other. We were very impressed when we picked new characters vs older ones, and they all came with customized intros depending on who they were fighting. Even if you’re in the mood to just play against some friends, you’ll probably just gawk at the nicely made cutscene(s) unfolding before your very eyes.

The only remark we can give about this otherwise great package is the fact that it comes at a very high price tag. The base game is now available for around 20 dollars/euros and the Legendary Edition, which basically just adds the DLC characters, will immediately set you back 50 dollars/euros. This means that the DLC content actually costs you more than the actual base game. We feel that a lower price would make this package slightly more attractive.

Conclusion

Even though we may find the asking price for the 2020 game with extra characters a bit too high, this is still a phenomenal fighting game. We truly love how much work was put into this game, and from start to finish, we were treated to great fighting mechanics, spectacular views, and an overall superb experience. If you don’t own the game yet, and love similar titles such as the newest Guilty Gear, we can easily advise picking this one up.
