Back in 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man was an absolute marvel when it was released. While we didn’t give the game a perfect score, the title offered a great superhero story and a big world to explore, with many new outfits, gadgets, and collectibles to uncover. Soon after, with the release of the PlayStation 5, the game already received a new standalone story to explore, as well as a significant update in the ‘Remastered’ version for the next-gen console. However, with Sony bringing some of their most iconic releases to PC, it’s clear that the publisher is finally thinking outside of the (console) box. After God of War, it’s now Spidey’s turn to enamor PC gamers around the globe. We will briefly discuss the PC version below. If you wish to learn more than that, feel free to read our original review by clicking here.

In essence, you’re pretty much getting the same game as the PS5 version, albeit for PC. The game runs buttery smooth, and it comes with a fair few extra options to adjust the graphical quality. The latter is quite interesting for gamers who don’t have a complete powerhouse rig. Outside of that, it’s mainly the addition of mouse and keyboard controls, which might also win over a few diehard PC gamers. We did, however, still enjoy playing the game with a controller the most. Our original remarks still remain: we did find the overall controls to be a bit clunky from time to time, and the beginning stages of the combat feel a bit monotonous. After unlocking a few new gadgets and suits, things become a lot more interesting.

As stated above, the overall experience remains the same. You’ll play through the story where Spider-Man arrests The Kingpin, but because of this, the city’s criminals are now more aggressive than ever. You’ll find yourself battling iconic villains of the franchise, all while slinging through different neighborhoods, collecting collectibles, snapping pictures of landmarks, fighting crime, unlocking new spider-suits, and of course, learning new skills. The game is, in essence, an open-world experience where you can do loads of side activities in order to unlock the aforementioned items. Exploring is heavily rewarded, and it makes playing through the story slightly easier. We often found ourselves just exploring the city to collect the aforementioned items. It’s simply a lot of fun to just swing around, beat up some bad guys, and move slowly towards the main objective.

The game does try to spice things up by adding some puzzles and other mini-games to the mix. These offer a nice change of pace, and we never found these segments to be too hard. Some puzzles may put your grey matter at work, but even so, you should be able to find the solutions easily enough. If not, with the game already being out for quite some time on other platforms, you can simply consult online guides if you dislike these parts of the game.

Conclusion

If you missed the Remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man when it came out on PS5, and still do not own a PS5 or if you’re a PC-only gamer, we can easily recommend getting this amazing Spider-Man game. The title is an absolute delight to play through, and while a few of our original remarks remain, such as the sometimes annoying web-slinging controls, we enjoyed every minute of this original Spider-Man story. The title runs buttery smooth on PC, and with many different customization options, the game has never looked better. If you’re looking for a great game to sink your teeth into, this one’s certainly worth looking into.
