The LEGO movie knew a great success and I think it’s safe to say that the humour in that particular movie was one of the biggest reasons for all the praise and positive reviews it received. However, some of you might not know that there’s a whole bunch of LEGO movies out there. We at 3rd-strike.com had the opportunity to check out the new LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League movie and it must be said: it wasn’t too hard to get some good laughs out of it.

Superman has a problem. Not any kind of problem but a super problem! Bizarro, a clone of Superman himself, is causing trouble in Metropolis and although the good-natured clone means well, he can’t help but make a mess of everything. On top of that, the inhabitants of Metropolis always assume that it’s Superman who’s gone crazy instead of accusing Bizarro as they have no idea of his existence. Time to fix that! Superman succeeds in luring Bizarro to a far away planet where he can do no harm and where he is free to build his own city to live in. Peace in the real city of Metropolis returns and the Justice League, consisting of a team of the best superheroes like Batman, The Green Lantern and Wonder Woman among others, go back to beating crooks and other bad guys. One day though, Bizarro shows up once again but this time, he’s after the clone tool which created him. It’s up to the Justice League to find out what’s going on and to stop Bizarro!

Without spoiling the plot too much, this is what you can expect narrative wise. The story is pretty predictable and doesn’t seem to surprise the audience at any moment. As this is a family movie in the first place, the thin plot won’t be much of a problem. If you’re expecting a complex story like in Inception or The Da Vinci Code, you’ll not find it here, but you probably already suspected that.

One of the biggest reasons for an adult to watch movies like this lies in the incredible hilarious moments. The humour is more of a slapstick kind but doesn’t fail in making you laugh out loud on multiple occasions. Batman is back with his ultra serious behavior and Bizarro’s naivety makes for a lot of awkward situations. Adults and children alike will enjoy this movie because of its silliness, that’s for certain. Although LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League is probably more like an appetizer for the longer movies with a somewhat deeper story, it’s still worth the watch if you’ve got some time to spare and don’t want to watch anything all too serious.

The voices behind the characters are all pretty alright and fit the characters perfectly. Nolan North, a celebrity in the business of voice acting (Nathan Drake or Desmond Miles anyone?), provides Superman with the smoothest voice in the whole galaxy. Wonder Woman is voiced by no other than Kari Wahlgren, known for her roles in Kung Fu Panda and Spiderman 3: The Videogame. She too did a great job in representing her superhero character in the best way possible. However, one actor deserves some extra attention as he made the whole movie that much more enjoyable. Of course, I’m talking about Troy Baker (Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us), who took care of Batman’s incredible serious role and it’s partially thanks to him that your cheeks will feel crampy after watching this movie. Awesome job Mister Baker!

Although the movie itself is only 47 minutes long, there’s a bunch of extras you can watch afterwards. First of all, there’s an extra called Me Am Bizarro which explains a lot more about the clones of superheroes and how they react in comparison with the original. Next up, we’ve got LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Batman: Be-Leaguered TV Special *takes a breath* where you can see how and why Batman joined the Justice League. If Batman is your favorite character in the show, you are obliged to check this extra out! At last, there’re some bloopers ready to be watched as well.

Conclusion

Although a bit thin on the plot side, LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League proves to be a lot of fun to watch alone or preferable, with the whole family as it’s the perfect movie to watch with the kids. All characters are voiced-in with a lot of enthusiasm and the humour is just incredibly satisfying at times. A perfect ‘snack’ to see between longer and more complex movies, I’d say.
