AVM FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX – Hardware Review
It’s been over two years since AVM gave us the opportunity to try out the FRITZ!Repeater 1200. This little repeater proved to be a great addition to our internet setup at home, even though it only supported 2.4 GHz at that time. Nonetheless, here we are, trying out the new and improved FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX, which comes with WiFi 6 support, mesh capabilities, and proper 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz support. We were curious to see how much this tiny powerhouse has improved.
Obviously, we are also somewhat repeating ourselves when it comes to the text that revolves around these devices. As a whole, compared to several years ago, setting up these repeaters is extremely easy, and setting up the FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX is no exception. You can opt to connect the device via the WPS button, which you have to press on your router, as well as on the repeater. When doing so, you’re normally good to go in mere moments. Keep in mind to do this in range of the actual router, as otherwise, you’ll be pressing those buttons for a long time.
Even though this repeater works perfectly fine with non-AVM products, it should once again be noted that AVM has designed its own ‘eco-system’ in which all the brand’s devices work together in perfect harmony. If you own an AVM router, this is a no-brainer, and you’ll be able to enjoy the latest mesh technology when hooking up the FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX. If you do not own an AVM router, then things will still run quite smoothly and you’ll have yourself a decent and high-quality repeater to boost your internet signal. You’ll just be missing out on some QOL functions that come when you have several AVM products in your setup. Keep in mind that a repeater will just give you a better signal in a bigger portion of your house or office, and it will not make your download and/or upload speed faster. The latter is dependent on your internet subscription and, of course, your router.
Conclusion
It seems our reviews for repeaters are always getting shorter and shorter, and this is simply due to the fact that we have said most things in older reviews, but also thanks to the technology getting better. We notice that we have no issues setting up these devices anymore, and we’re often enjoying the signal boost, the powerline functions, or even the mesh capabilities in mere moments. All in all the FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX is a great device to add to your setup, be it when owning an AVM router or even when you have a different brand of router. The device proves to be quite affordable and you’re guaranteed to get a piece of quality hardware.
