Blade of Darkness launches on Switch
It can be a reality check to see that games from the early 2000s are already considered such classics that they get a remake, remaster, or re-release. As highly popular titles like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot have seen new daylight in current times, some other lesser publicly known titles also deserve a place in the spotlight. This time an action-RPG classic, Blade of Darkness, is released today to be played anywhere on the Switch. Some might remember this game as Severance: Blade of Darkness, a highly innovative title from 2001. A game that shaped action-adventure games for the time and introduced us to new ways of playing. Comparing both games side by side you will notice that some elements are updated to fit the current times while remaining completely true to their roots. This time around, players will find themselves in the boots of one of four champions, fighting the many abominations that have entered the world, with a destructive environment and bloody combat.
It all takes place in The Central Kingdoms, this place was a safe haven for many until the borders that the fierce King’s Knights protected no longer were secure. A grim new threat in the forms of fearsome orc clans lurks on all roads, strange beasts prowl in the darkness and the foul army of hideous creatures advances inexorably. As chaos seizes the World there is much panic going on and everyone struggles to find a solution. Only the elders can recall the exploits of a hero and a few warriors who have been in the same situation before, together with his mythical sword given to him by Ianna, the mother of all living beings. This time they need to find a new hero who can recover the sword and wield it against evil, to banish it once and for all.

- Four playable characters– Pick your Champion of Ianna — Tukaram, the Barbarian; Naglfar, the Dwarf; Sargon, the Knight; or Zoe, the Amazon — each with unique strengths, weaknesses, and fighting skills, as you hack ‘n’ slash your way through a blood-drenched quest to save the world from the forces of Chaos.
- Bloody and gory combat– Learn devastating combo attacks and use them to slice your opponents into pieces. Hack off your foes’ limbs, then use them as weapons!
- A detailed and dark fantasy world– Battle orcs, trolls, golems, demons, skeletons, and scores of malevolent enemy creatures as you explore treacherous tombs, frozen fortresses, demon spires, deserts, temples, and palaces.
- Interactive environments– Destroy in-game objects with fire or your fists as you solve puzzles and disarm traps that combine physics, hydraulic systems, and lethal traps!
- Re-release of a genre-defining game– We are happy to bring Blade of Darkness back to life on Nintendo Switch. It’s an enduring classic that, at the time of its release, inspired many games in the action-adventure genre through its approach to combat
