Cardfight!! Vanguard Special Series 10: Shiki Otei Start Deck
It has not been that long since we featured an article about the Special Series 09: Zero Tendo Start Deck, one of Cardfight!! Vanguards recently released Start Decks. We concluded that this was a nice upgrade for Vyrgilla players thanks to new support cards and valuable reprint cards. Today, however, we’ll leave the Dragon Empire nation and move on over to Stoicheia for the Special Series 10: Shiki Otei Start Deck. This is the other new Start Deck that brings a whole lot of new cards to the table (quite literally).
The Special Series 10: Shiki Otei Start Deck introduces a brand new Vanguard, namely Legend of the Celestial Fury, Estacion. Estacion is a cool new addition to the lineup of Stoicheia Vanguards, and it uses an interesting gimmick. This deck has a Blast Token Unit that cannot be targeted or affected by your opponent’s abilities, and it is called to the center back-row Rear-Guard circle. You can place units from your Rear-Guard circles into the Blast Token to build up its Plant Gauges and to draw additional cards. You can use these Plant Gauges to pay for Estacion’s ability cost, but other units will also unlock additional effects when you have a higher number of Plant Gauges. To get back to Estacion, this new Vanguard can check the top three cards of your deck but also call a Blast unit to Rear-Guard when attacking. Thanks to this, you’ll have more card draw and a better field setup.
For this Start Deck, Estacion has received a lot of support units that work with the Plant Gauges. You’ll have units that may gain additional effects depending on your Plant Gauges. For example, Solitario Frio of Absolute Winter gets an additional Critical and cannot be chosen by your opponent’s card effects until the end of their next turn if you have five or more Plant Gauges. It’s a fun and interesting new gimmick that somewhat feels like a brand new resource type. This will also give you more deck-building options when customizing the Start Deck, as you’ll be able to make a nice mix between the different available resources in Cardfight!! Vanguard.
This Start Deck also comes with several interesting reprints, such as Protection: Twincast and Conceited Noble, Philander. Protection: Twincast provides a great defensive option for the deck, as you can basically play the card twice. From hand, you can play the normal effect to add power to your unit that is being attacked, and from drop, you can also add power to a unit being attacked, after removing the card. Philander can take a look at the top five cards when played from hand, and you can discard up to one card from those five cards. When there are 10 or more cards in your drop, Philander will also get a power boost. The cards in your drop are also important, as Estacion can call a unit from your drop (or deck) via its ability.
