Cardfight!! Vanguard Special Series 09: Zero Tendo Start Deck

There are several thresholds to cross when considering playing card games or when creating new decks to play with. In both cases, it’s often very hard to simply know what cards to get to build a functional deck that will allow you to compete with other players. It’s always nice when a publisher makes sure that, at frequent intervals, there are products that immediately help you on your way to diving into the game, while still offering a certain complexity and competitive edge. This brings us to Cardfight!! Vanguard’s latest set of two new Start Decks for new and veteran players to play and tinker with. For today’s article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Special Series 09: Zero Tendo Start Deck, the first of the two decks.

The Special Series 09: Zero Tendo Start Deck might look somewhat familiar to longtime Cardfight!! Vanguard players, as this deck does have a lot of the cards that made up last year’s Stardust Blade Start Deck. This means that Rewrite the Star, Vyrgilla makes its comeback here with a few new added cards. This Vanguard is a very beginner-friendly one, as the effect is very straightforward but still covers all the bases. You’ll be able to bind one of your opponent’s Rear-Guards, call a Grade 2 Unit from drop, and you can even Stand one of your Rear-Guards when Rewrite the Star, Vyrgilla attacks. This means you’ll have a healthy balance of field removal while filling your own field, but also have the option of performing an additional attack.

The Special Series 09: Zero Tendo Start Deck comes with a few new cards, such as Opening of the End, Enwing and Flare Cosmor. Enwing adds both an offensive and defensive option to the mix thanks to its option to bind one of your opponent’s Rear-Guard Units and its increased shield value when you have a Grade 3 Vyrgilla Vanguard. Flare Cosmor is a support unit for your Ezerwur Rear-Guard. Flare Cosmor can be called from drop when your Ezerwur unit is placed, and depending on how Ezerwur was placed, you might even be able to call Flare Cosmor for free. When Ezerwur Stands with the ability of your Vyrgilla Vanguard, Flare Cosmor can also Stand as well if it’s in the Back Row with Ezerwur.

There are also two interesting reprints in this Start Deck, namely Union the Sky and Stealth Fiend, Shenryi. These two cards not only elevate your toolkit for the upcoming matches, but they are also pretty rare, so they also increase the actual deck value. This makes the deck an interesting choice for both newcomers and experienced players, as it has a lot of interesting cards and a competitive edge thanks to new and reprinted cards. On top of that, Vyrgilla recently received a big power-up in the recently released Special Series: Festival Booster 2025, with the support that could be found in the Booster Pack.
