Devolo has provided us with many items in the past that allowed us to boost our WiFi signals or connect our LAN devices to the internet via their powerline solutions. More than often, their kits focused heavily on making sure the WiFi signal reached every nook and cranny of your home. Other kits served well to hook up our consoles or other devices to the internet via a powerline, guaranteeing a minimum of data loss. Even though these products often came at a premium price, we experienced extremely smooth sailing after hooking up some of the Devolo products. Now, it seems the manufacturer has pulled out all the stops with their Magic 2 WiFi 6 Multiroom Kit, which combines the functions of traditional repeaters, with powerline capabilities, and even some mesh technology.

Just like the Devolo Magic 2 WiFi Multiroom Kit we reviewed back in 2019, the new WiFi 6 kit is a similar package, albeit updated and modernized. We once again get one main adapter, which you connect with your router, and two extra adapters, which you can spread across your house or office space. We get treated to a simple and modest design that suits every type of interior. We love the simple and sleek look of the adapters, and the fact that they come with a built-in power outlet is also a plus. Passwords are on the back of each device, so it’s always best to save a picture on your phone in case you ever need these.

The Multiroom Kit comes with the base adapter that you’ll have to connect directly with your router, as well as two additional adapters that will serve as the new access points (or expand your current coverage as a complete mesh network). The two adapters also have two Ethernet ports, allowing you to connect devices without WiFi capabilities via an Ethernet cable. Also, the latter offers a more stable connection for media devices or gaming consoles, as even the fastest WiFi connection can be fickle at times. Once again, we do wish to stress that your internet will never go faster than your payment plan with these adapters. This means that if you have a cheaper and slower connection, the Devolo adapters will match that speed (or prevent as little loss as possible). That being said, we were able to ensure proper coverage in our home, making sure we had a stable connection and still managed to obtain high data transfer speeds. Of course, a WiFi connection always has some data loss, even with premium-priced repeaters/transmitters.

As stated above, these transmitters will not really let your power outlet go to waste. As each of the adapters also has an outlet, you can simply plug in a device in them as well. Be sure to use the adapters in the wall socket and not in a power strip. Also, we do advise not to plug in a power strip with too many ‘heavy’ devices into the adapters, as these will slightly strain the devices, causing a bit of decline in the quality of your internet connection. That being said, this wasn’t very noticeable, and only occurred when we had multiple heavier devices powered on in the connected power strip (PlayStation 5, TV, desktop, monitor, and external hard drive).

As mentioned in earlier reviews, there’s a dedicated app for Devolo products, but we highly doubt that you’ll actually be needing it if you’re content with the basic functions. Sure, it’s nice to check up on certain things, but our installation process went swimmingly by just following the easy steps in the manual. As a whole, this is truly a ‘no-hassle’ kit, and you don’t really need to be tech-savvy to get things up and running. Those who want to take advantage of the kit’s mesh capabilities might have to use the app to get things started.

Conclusion

Devolo’s Magic 2 WiFi 6 Multiroom Kit is an amazing kit to assure a great WiFi experience in your home or (small) office, and it even offers proper powerline functionalities, as well as mesh capabilities. Even though this kit comes at a premium price, it’s certainly worth the money if you’re looking for pretty much the best solution out there. We were very impressed by the quality, but also by the very easy setup.
