Fabular: Once upon a Spacetime announced

From a small team of talented veterans from the gaming industry comes Fabular: Once upon a Spacetime. The labor of love project by Spiritus Games is also their debut title and will be releasing in Spring 2017 for PC. Inspired by folktales and famous fairy tales from authors such as the Grimm Brothers, the game offers a unique blend of retro-futurism in a folktale-inspired storyline while also being infused with a plethora of rogue-like elements.

Procedural level generation will offer a high replayability value where players are not only able to choose their type of spacecraft but can also gain mythical folktale-inspired loot. Skills and upgrades can be unlocked, resulting in drastically different playthroughs of the young medieval knight on a quest in outer space.

Players control the King’s youngest heir as they explore an abstract, storybook-like universe and engage other space-faring knights and creatures in close and ranged combat using a unique techno-fantasy skillset which is inspired by fan favorite titles such as FTL: Faster Than Light, Star Control and Path of Exile.

Here’s a short overview of the features that will be implemented in the game:

  • Top-down, physics-based melee and ranged combat with stylish real-time-lit pixel art visuals and smooth animation
  • An artistic vision of the Middle Ages infused with futuristic elements, as medieval knights clash in armoured spaceships
  • Deep and atmospheric universe with dozens of procedurally generated out-of-this-world locations on an ever-changing starmap
  • Hundreds of randomly generated text based events featuring colorful characters, locations and items inspired by classical folktales such as Table-Be-Set, Seven-League Boots or The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs
  • Multiple playable ship types, upgrades, skills, items and lots of unlockables offering huge replayability value
