Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (PS4) – Review Update
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn finally makes its way onto the PS4. You can actually see the difference between the PS4 and PS3 version. Everything you see, is much more detailed on PS4. The environments look stunningly beautiful, and it’s possible to zoom out further and keep the environment steady without any lag. Now more characters can be visualised on screen, while armor, weapons, mounts, characters, etc are now much more detailed.
But it’s more than just a graphical update. The cross hotbar from the PS3 version has been updated for PS4 and made more customizable. This makes it so that the controls are very easy to use and won’t take to long to get accustomed to. A new feature to the controls, only possible on PS4 because of the touchpad on the DS4, is to use the touchpad as a mouse. If you do not want to play the game with the controller, you can always plug in a mouse and keyboard on your PS4 and play that way, so there are multiple ways to play this game. This is a nice touch, because you’re able to choose how you manage your game.
Last but certainly not least is the amazing new feature to be able to remote play with the PS Vita. As long as you have an internet connection available, you can make contact with your PS4 and you can play FFXIV ARR anywhere you want, even if you are just taking your bath. The graphics are a little less than the PS4 but nevertheless they look great on the little Vita screen. Controls are a little bit more tricky as you have no R2 and L2 button, but you have to use the back touchpad instead, which isn’t always very easy to do. But that’s the only downside I could find.
A very positive note is that you do not require Playstation Plus to play FFXIV online. You can just log in and play with the same character you were using on the PC and/or PS3.
