The music legend Rick Astley appears in a new video featuring his global hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” for the intergalactic launch of the game ‘Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’!

Created specifically for the launch of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the video puts Rick Astley in the role of a mysterious hacker who uses a cunning ruse to trap gamers and then treats them to the classic “Rickroll” meme. This video was made as collaboration between Rick Astley and video game developer Eidos-Montréal, a Square Enix studio.

Music plays a major role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and in addition to Never Gonna Give You Up, the licensed soundtrack includes 30 other classic pop and rock songs from the 80s, including tracks by artists such as Mötley Crüe, Bonnie Tyler, Billy Idol, Pat Benetar, Def Leppard and BLONDIE. An innovative gameplay mechanism called the Huddle offers players the chance to motivate the Guardians during battle with pep talks inspired by famous song lyrics. In the video, Rick uses this mechanism to steer players in a certain direction that ended up with the Rickroll, where players face a dancing Rick and his groundbreaking 1980s hit, Never Gonna Give You Up.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is now available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and streaming via GeForce NOW. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cloud Version for Nintendo Switch is also available in some regions.
