Microsoft to discontinue Kinect for Windows V1

Microsoft will be discontinuing the Kinect V1 for Windows-based computers. The second version of that product was released in July 2014 and after that an updated SDK was also made available in October later that year. Microsoft claims that users and developers stated that the transition to the second version was smoother than expected and thus they feel that the V1 has had its time. The new device features improved orientation and facial tracking. There’s also multi-app support and Unity Pro support. The Kinect V2 for Windows computers is basically the same as the Xbox One version but the availability of a complete Windows OS in the background should offer some benefits. Only time will tell if developers will jump on the bandwagon to make an attractive platform for the Kinect as it does retail at around $199.

Kinect V2 for Windows-based computers is available now.
