Minion Masters: Forced to Duel isn’t a brand new title from the developers over at Betadwarf, but with the release on Discord games, the real time strategy game got a second life on a new ‘gaming platform’. The game is similar to the one that was released on Steam last year, so nothing new there. However, it has to prove itself once again to the public. So let’s see if it’s worth to head down to the Discord Store and pick it up or if the game is forced to duel for its existence.

There isn’t an actual story in Minion Masters. Looking at the overall gameplay and what you have to do while playing, it is a good thing that they didn’t add one. It is your goal to destroy the enemy’s base before yours gets destroyed. We do feel like they made the right decision not putting a story in the game.

Minion Masters: Forced to Duel uses 3D graphics. Everything in the game is perfectly designed and looks amazing. The developers put great effort in the detailed style of the different minions you can summon and of course also in the arena and other things you encounter while playing the game.

The sound that you hear while you are playing the game is very nice and contributes to the gameplay. You can clearly hear the difference between the cards that are played or minions that are summoned. The only thing that can be experienced as very annoying is the voice of the commentator. It’s constantly the same, saying the same stuff over and over again. That being said, the overall in-game sound and music is a job very well done.

Minion Masters: Forced to Duel is a RTS card battler game. The gameplay is very similar to games such as the mobile game Clash Royale. You have to put together a deck of cards which suits you the best and fulfils your own preferences. After you have built your deck, you can advance into battle and start your mission to beat your opponent. During the game you will collect mana. This mana is used to summon your minions onto the battlefield. Each card uses a specific amount of mana in order to be summoned so you have to be sure to use the right tactics, making sure you can always play your best card. The ultimate goal is to destroy the tower of your enemy, but to get there you have to fight a way through the minions of the enemy.

The game has a couple of different game modes that can be played such as; Battle!, Team Battle, Draft, Challenges, Expeditions and Mayhem. Let’s have a look at the different kind of game modes and what gameplay they offer.

In the Battle! game mode you will be matched up with a random opponent and you just have to destroy their tower. So you can basically see this as a quick match option. Then we have the Team Battle mode. In this mode you fight alongside one other player against two enemies. In the Draft mode you will be assigned a random deck of cards to play with, as will your opponent. It is very similar to the Battle! mode but you have to adapt to the deck of cards you get assigned instead of putting together your own deck.

The Challenges mode consists of a couple of challenges you will have to complete and in the Mayhem game mode you will have to defend and eventually try to beat really strong opponents.

Even though it is a typical card battler and it falls in line with the mobile game Clash Royale etc., the game manages to be fun and outstanding. The different game modes keep it fun to play!

The only negative thing is that there isn’t much difference between the game released on Discord and the game that came out last year on Steam. They just put the same game out there but in another store.

Conclusion

Looking at the game and keeping in mind that the game is very similar to the game that was released last year on Steam, there isn’t much improvement or differences to be found. The fact that you can play the game through Discord is something that you will have to get used to, but once you have launched it there, you will notice no difference. The in-game sound is very good, with different sound effects for different minions/cards, and the graphics that are used in the game are developed perfectly, creating an enjoyable experience. Everything is very detailed and looks just beautiful. While playing the game you won’t experience any lag or whatsoever. The different game modes keep the game fun to play and even though it basically means you are doing the same thing over and over again, it doesn’t feel very repetitive.
