More details revealed for Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Patch 5.5

During the most recent Letter from the Producer LIVE broadcast, Square Enix revealed new details for Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Patch 5.5. Additionally, a new trailer was released. Patch 5.5 is titled “Death Unto Dawn” and consists of two parts that together form the baseline for the upcoming fourth expansion, Endwalker. Part one will launch on the 13th of April and contains the highly anticipated third chapter of YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, the alliance raid inspired by NieR which was developed by guest directors Yosuke Saito and YOKO TARO. The patch also adds a trove of new storylines, battle content, system updates and more.

During the presentation, producer and director Naoki Yoshida also revealed new upcoming info about the PS5 version of Final Fantasy XIV Online. The open beta of this version launches alongside patch 5.5. In addition to earlier announced upgrades, including improved framerate, shorter load times and 4K resolution, the new release also adds haptic feedback for the DualSense controller, new trophies and 3D audio support. Players that have registered the PS4 version on their account can upgrade to the PS5 version for free right at the beginning of the open beta launch. Newcomers can experience the game on PS5 thanks to the free trial. The full version of the game will launch on PS5 after the end of the open beta. Producer and director Naoki Yoshida also announced that the Final Fantasy XIV Online community reached a new milestone by having 22 million registered players. More details were also revealed about the upcoming Digital Fan Festival, which takes place on the 15th and 16th of May.
