Pass The Punch announced at Gamescom
Many new titles have been announced at Gamescom this year. Sumo Digital has announced its newest beat ‘em up game, Pass the Punch. This game is set in a world influenced by the 80s and 90s Saturday morning cartoons and side-scrolling brawlers like Street Fighter and Streets of Rage. This game follows the story of Rush, a resident of New Atlas, as she fights the dastardly villains King Crab and Red Velvet, who are turning Rush’s favorite hangouts into lifeless, corporate franchises.
The residents of New Atlas will all form the playable characters in this game. These residents can transform into powerful beings with special abilities that are based on their everyday lives, for example, Rush is a gym owner who transforms into a fast boxing champion with her buddy Claud who is a LARPer which lets him turn into a powerful berserker. Outside of the normal story mode, there is a game mode
We also got the chance to play the game at an early stage at Gamescom. The controls of the game were easy to handle and the game plays just like the old-school brawler games. Combining this genre with characters, environments, and enemies based on cartoons from the 80s and 90s gives this game its uniqueness.
Inside the story mode of this game, a special game mode has been added that is basically a mix of beating up your enemies while scoring points in a game of basketball. This game mode was very fun to play, but we couldn’t play against someone else yet. This will also be a separate game mode that will be able to be played with friends to have some fun shooting hoops while busting their asses at the same time.
We are looking forward to hearing more about this game. The game will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC later this year. Be sure to check the first screenshots of this Pass the Punch to get an idea of the great mix of brawling games and cartoons.
