Return to frozen Azeroth with Wrath of the Lich King Classic today!
Blizzard Entertainment’s Wrath of the Lich King Classic expansion for World of Warcraft is now live. All players with an active subscription will automatically gain access to this recreation of WoW‘s acclaimed second expansion at no additional cost and can log in today to begin their adventures in the frozen wilderness of Azeroth’s northern continent. The legendary story can be experienced on all realms previously dedicated to World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic content. Players embark on a treacherous adventure through lush locations, taking on enemies found nowhere else in Azeroth and completing countless quests before confronting the iconic Lich King in Icecrown Citadel and ending his heartless destruction. This journey includes the emergence of the terrifying Death Knight hero class, available to all players (even new players!) and starting at level 55, the original iteration of the World of Warcraft achievement system to recognize various achievements in the game, and the Inscription profession, which allows players to scribe skill-enhancing glyphs that change the appearance and customize the properties of spells and skills.
The experience of this beloved expansion, originally released in 2008, has been carefully maintained, while some social and gameplay features have been modernized for the current and classic community. Current group tools have evolved while maintaining the experience of organically forming groups. Players will also see other quality of life updates made to preserve the soul of Classic and ensure that players’ adventures through Northrend are as satisfying as they are challenging. The community is central to Classic and there is plenty of group content for players to explore with friends: as of today, 12 dungeons are available as part of the player level and max level experience, with a total of 16 dungeons available during the expansion. On the 6th of October, players looking for even more overwhelming excitement can take on the first three of seven raids – Eye of Eternity, Obsidian Sanctum and Naxxramas – before continuing their adventures in Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, Icecrown Citadel, and Ruby Sanctum in future updates.
