Torment: Tides of Numenera coming to Gamescom

Good news! inXile Entertainment and Techland Publishing have announced that the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Torment: Tides of Numenera will be available for PS4 and Xbox One later in the year, with its first showcase being at Gamescom 2016. Originally only slated to be a PC title, inXile and Techland have been working hard to ensure a console launch alongside the PC version.

After the rise and fall of many civilisations upon Earth, the once technologically advanced planet has regressed back to its medieval roots. Humans live in simple settlements, surrounded by mysterious relics from the past that no one recognises anymore. This is the Ninth World, and the artifacts – the ‘numenera’ are the key to a forgotten past.

You play as the Last Castoff, the final vessel in a long line of bodies to house the consciousness of an ancient man who had managed to find a way to leave his physical body and essentially live as an immortal. Little did he know, that every time he abandoned these host bodies, they awoke with their own consciousness, but with no memory of their former master. This does not bode well, since The Sorrow has come to destroy your master and his other creations. Find other castoffs, artifacts, and the answer to a question that has been troubling the Last Castoff: what does one life matter?

Key features of Torment: Tides of Numenera include:

  • A world unlike any other- journey across the Ninth World, an original setting with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic.
  • A rich, personal narrative- the story in this title is thoughtful and character driven, evoking deep philosophical comments both in the mechanics and in the narrative.
  • Choices matter- morality in the Ninth World does not simply consist of right or wrong
  • A new take on combat- play your way through hand-crafted set pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth and more.

The first showcase will be at Gamescom 2016 in Hall 10.1 (for the public), which is on between the 18th and 21st of August in the Cologne Exhibition Centre, Germany. Meanwhile, if you’re interested, make sure to check out the console announcement trailer below!
