Video Games That Require High-End Computers To Run Them

If you are a professional video gamer or you are just really (really) crazy about video games, you probably know the difference between video games that can run on regular PCs and video games that have high-spec GPU requirements. If you don’t, you don’t have to worry. In this article, I’ve put together some of the most graphically demanding PC games you’ll find on the market. There’s a good chance you’ve heard of or even played some of these video games.

Alright, let’s skip the chatter and get right into the real gist. So, here are some of the video games that require high-end computers to run at their highest settings.

Grand Theft Auto V

Ah! Grand Theft Auto V is probably one of the all-time favorite PC games for many gamers; and like every other game on this list, it requires a high-end computer to run at maximum capacity. Like most open-world games, Grand Theft Auto V is graphically demanding. The game is designed to run up to 4K resolution and even above, so if you want to enjoy the full experience, you’ll need a high-end computer, but this can put a strain on your wallet. If you want a budget-friendly option, you can consider buying gaming laptops under 1500. However, an AMD HD 7870 or Nvidia GTX 660 should help you easily reach the recommended settings. But if you want to enjoy this game at the maximum experience or run it at 60 FPS, you’ll need a PC with higher specifications than an AMD HD 7870 or Nvidia GTX 660.

Final Fantasy XV

Okay! Who else thinks the spec requirements for this game are over the top? I’ll be honest, Final Fantasy XV does come with really amazing graphics and the details and texture are simply stunning; but what will most definitely punish your GPU is the advanced physics (GameWorks technology).

Even more startling, the game requires 155GB free space to run in 4K! And this doesn’t guarantee that you can run the game at 60 fps. Overall, I recommend either the RTX 2080 or GTX 1080Ti if you want to enjoy this game. You’ll also need 16 GB of RAM.

Crysis 3

This list wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t add this PC game. Crysis 3 is notoriously known for gobbling GPUs. The game’s intensive graphics is so high that it’s often used as a yardstick for measuring GPU performances.

The good news is that you can run the game smoothly at minimum requirements, but if you want the ultimate Crysis 3 experience, you’ll need more than your regular PC. You need a gaming laptop with a solid GPU; an Nvidia GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD will do just fine.

Forza Horizon 4

Forza Horizon 4 is one of the few racing games designed with a very stunning environment. The intricate details the developers put into creating this masterpiece show its excellent graphics. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Forza Horizon 4 takes zero chances in terms of graphics. To enjoy the full experience of this game, you need to play it at maximum graphics settings. But – that’s easier said than done if your PC doesn’t fit this game’s high-spec requirements.

You’ll need an AMD R9 290X or an Nvidia GTX 970 to run Forza Horizon 4 at maximum graphics settings. You’ll also find that this game takes up quite a lot of RAM, requiring 12GB of RAM to run. Of course, standard PCs cannot meet this requirement since most of these come with 8 to 16 GB of RAM.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 is popular for many reasons, but two of these stand out; great graphics and higher-spec requirements. It is no surprise that this game is used as a standard for high-end gaming systems. You can tweak the game’s visual settings to make the characters and environment look more life-like, but as expected, this can be very demanding for your GPU.

A GTX 770 and a robust processor will produce sub-30 FPS image reproduction, but you may not be able to get more than 60 FPS even with a monster like the RTX 2060.

Final Thoughts

There are tons of video games on the market that require high-end computers to run, but the bottom line is that you require a beast of a computer to enjoy these games at maximum capacity. Trying to run these games on a regular PC is pretty much like digital suicide. That said, what other games do you know that require high-end computers to run?
