Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – Skitarii Class DLC – Review
It’s been a while since we last played Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, not because we don’t like the game, but because we felt we had seen most of what the game has to offer since it came out. We do occasionally pick things up again when a new class releases, and then we quite enjoy diving back into the hectic battles this Warhammer FPS has to offer. So far, some of the classes have been received with mixed reviews, and we can honestly see why: classes don’t come with additional content, and the price of entry is not low at all. Now, with the release of the Skitarii class, we were wondering if things had changed a lot. For the most part, not much has changed, but we’ll delve a bit into the experience we have had in our playthrough with the new class.
Truth be told, we will probably sum up most of what the Skitarii Class DLC has to offer in a paragraph or two. The new class has the same ‘premium’ feel as the Arbiter or the Hive Scum classes, as you’ll have more customization options and the classes feel a bit more expansive. This is also the case for the Skitarii, who have ghastly (but cool) cosmetic options, a free-flowing skill tree, and new skills that will allow for new team compositions. You can opt for a more melee-focused build, a ranged sniper-like build, or a support build that relies more on your Servo Skull. The latter is a very interesting new addition, as it can help you solve environmental puzzles by taking over control of terminals, for example. It can also keep enemies at bay, making it an interesting support build. That being said, the class is very squishy when leveling up, so it does take a while to find your footing, especially when playing with strangers online. The more ‘free-form’ skill tree does allow you to adjust your build a lot more easily while leveling, which is certainly a plus.
The biggest problem here is once again that the DLC does not come with other additional content outside of the class itself. While this is probably not a big problem for many players, you won’t have much else than the class itself waiting for you if you have already cleared everything the game has to offer. Of course, it’s fun to level a new class, and it will take you a while to learn the ropes, but it would have been nice if these DLCs also added some other content as well.
Conclusion
We’ll be making the same remark as always in these class DLC reviews for Darktide: the price of entry is quite high, BUT the class itself proves to be an enjoyable way to reexperience everything the game has to offer. Sure, it’s a shame that these DLCs do not come with additional content, but if you are loving Darktide as a whole, you’ll probably enjoy what this class brings to the table. We did notice the Skitarii is a bit squishier when starting out, but as you progress, it’ll become a valuable asset to any team composition, both in terms of damage as well as support, thanks to its handy Servo Skull skills. If you’re looking to dive back into the gritty battles of Darktide, now feels like the right time.
