Point and click adventure games are quite popular these days. It can be hard to find a game in this genre that fits your playstyle. The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief tries to combine different elements to spice the normal point and click genre by adding a mix of mysterious events and an exciting plot. Will this be enough to blow your mind?

A solid and decent story is essential for a good point and click adventure game. You start the game in 1964 as Constable Anton Jakob Zellner. This more elderly policeman of the Swiss police force passes his time by filling in paperwork. He thinks he’s a good policeman and wants to feel the thrill of a good hunt again. This might happen when he gets the chance to help catch a notorious thief with the famous inspector Nicolas Legrand. Inspector Legrand gained his fame by killing the cunning thief ‘the Raven’.  This burglar was a legend and could rob anything without leaving a trace. Four years after his death, there are some similar burglaries taking place. The ‘new Raven’ uses the same methods and signature. This makes the inspector ponder about the possibility that he shot the wrong crook.

The story starts on a train to Italy. This train transport a very important package and it’s Constable Zellners duty to keep an eye on the passengers. I’m not going to spoil any more details about the story, but I can say that there are some nice event changes.

The game has one main mission and one or more side quests. It’s totally up to you if you feel like taking the challenge. Solving additional quests doesn’t seem to have any effect on the main storyline. The additional objectives give the game an extra dimension and makes it all a bit more complicated.

The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief works with Adventure Points. You can use these credits to ‘buy’ your hints or to highlight the points of interest. You start off with a small amount of Adventure Points and you can gain extra points when you complete an objective.

The graphics in this game seem very bright and detailed. Every character has their own characteristics and are very realistic. It’s possible to change the quality of the graphics and you can adjust the resolution so the game fits your screen. You cannot toggle between windowed mode and fullscreen, which is a minor negative point.

The music emphasizes the style of the game and teleports you back to the sixties. Each character has an unique voice and they all match with the appearance and personality. The sound effects are realistic and give the game an extra effect. You can change the volume of the sound, voice and music separately. It’s also possible to change the audio language and the subtitles to German.

The controls in The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief are decent but could be better. It’s sometimes hard to make Constable Zellner run in the direction you want. He’s sometimes stuck behind furniture so you need to make him walk back. This can sometimes lead to clicking interactive spots on the screen, which makes playing a bit slow.
Another remark is that the game runs with realtime 3D images. This is very nice and gives a realistic touch. This can be a reason why Constable Zellner moves quite slow. It can be due to is more elderly age, which is alright, but this can start to annoy after a short notice of time.

The last remark I can make is the positioning of the interactive places. Some of the items or spots of interests are easy to find, but other ones are almost impossible to click because they’re too close to each other.

These are mostly minor remarks and shouldn’t be a problem for the detectives out there. I hope the story stays interesting and I can say I’m very impressed with this game. I’m excited to see the result!
