A new video dives into Gothic 1 Remake’s artistic vision

In a newly released video for the upcoming Gothic 1 Remake, developer Alkimia Interactive explores the game’s artistic direction and details the process of recreating the Valley of Mines. The team’s focus is on maintaining the atmosphere and iconic visual identity of the original title while updating the graphics to meet modern standards—nearly 25 years after the original game’s release. Set in the Kingdom of Myrtana, Gothic 1 Remake follows a kingdom under siege by an orc invasion. In response, King Rhobar II mobilizes prisoners to mine magical ore in the region of Khorinis. A magical barrier is erected by the king’s mages to prevent escapes, but the spell backfires, trapping everyone inside. The prisoners revolt, taking control of the area and transforming it into a lawless zone ruled by various factions. As tensions rise, the arrival of an unknown prisoner begins to shift the balance of power.
