Atari Fit: exercise to unlock games!
Today Atari announced Atari Fit, a fitness app providing over 150 exercises which are selected by Michael Porter, a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. It will include numerous social features and connect with the most popular wearable health and fitness devices like Fitbit and Runkeeper, while aggregating data from apps like Google Health. Through participating in challenges that log steps taken, players will be able to earn loyalty points in the Walgreens balance rewards application program.
All that sounds pretty good, but here comes the kicker: the app will reward you with points for doing exercises, which can be used to unlock classic Atari games like Pong, Super Breakout and more! This gamification of exercises doesn’t stop there, Atari Fit turns the exercising itself into a game with leaderboards, allowing you to strive to become the ‘Fittest player on Earth’. It will also be possible to take it a step further and fitness in multiplayer with friends located all over the world! Users can join a team and exercise or race against other teams, providing the encouragement that only a team can offer.
Coming to mobile devices early 2015, Atari fit is aimed at users at every level and will definitely make exercising a lot more fun, offering the right motivation to a lot of us to keep those New Year’s resolutions after all!
