AVM FRITZ!Box 4060 – Hardware Review
With all the new year festivities behind us, we are doing our best to catch up to some backlog reviews, especially seeing how many games were released recently. Sadly, this meant that one hardware review also got stuck in that evergrowing backlog, namely our promised review of the FRITZ!Box 4060. As mentioned in earlier reviews, we aren’t exactly professionals when it comes to hardware such as this, but we can still spot a good product when we see one (or in this case, use one). AVM’s FRITZ!Box 4060 supports all the latest technology, such as Wifi 6, and we were lucky enough to try out this fancy piece of hardware.
As we’re not really going to go through all the installation steps, we suggest following the instructions that come with the FRITZ!Box 4060. We honestly can’t explain it better than the actual manual does. If you follow the steps, there shouldn’t be any big issues and we found the experience of setting things up to be no hassle at all. When you’re done, you can start adjusting settings to suit your desired device use. There’s proper supporting software to do so. That being said, this tri-band router is an interesting addition to any gamer’s setup, thanks to the aforementioned tri-band functionalities. You’ll have two separate 5 GHz bands and one 2.4 GHz band at your disposal. In essence, this means you can reserve any of these purely for your gaming devices or for streaming purposes, without interference from any other devices. This is great, as there’s less risk of a stream acting up during key moments, or a game connection starting to suffer when someone else decides to start watching Netflix.
While we won’t bother you with too much technical lingo (as it confuses us at times as well), we can easily state that the FRITZ!Box 4060 is a future-proof device thanks to the integrated Wifi 6 technology. The transfer speeds are a lot quicker compared to many current Wifi 5 routers and repeaters. Wifi 6 technology also supports better interaction with multiple devices rather than servicing devices in sequence like Wifi 5 did. In short: you’ll have a more stable, quicker, and functional experience, not only for gaming but also for streaming and general browsing. Of course, keep in mind that if your internet subscription and your modem aren’t great, the FRITZ!Box 4060 will not improve your overall low-quality connection. Always be sure to check your subscription to check if a device such as the FRITZ!Box 4060 is a good investment.
We paired our FRITZ!Box 4060 with our FRITZ!Repeater 6000, making sure there was internet coverage throughout the house. While the FRITZ!Box 4060 coverage wasn’t too bad, especially as it’s close to our streaming and gaming setup, we did notice some signal loss in the outer regions of the house, as well as upstairs. This was instantly solved with the FRITZ!Repeater 6000, and with the mesh capabilities it was smooth sailing.
Even though this is probably not the first thing on your mind when purchasing a new router, the FRITZ!Box 4060 has a fairly classy design that’s suitable for all types of interiors. The solid white finish with the different LED lights and small red accent looks great and won’t stand out too much. The device has a clean look and all different functionalities and corresponding LED lights are clearly marked. This is something we can appreciate, as some other brands opt for a solid black design where it’s almost impossible to read what is next to all the different LED lights.
Conclusion
As we are still a gaming review website first and foremost, we can conclude that the FRITZ!Box 4060 enhanced our gaming sessions and passed the quality test with flying colors. We loved being able to ensure that our gaming sessions weren’t interfered with thanks to the tri-band capabilities, and we never suffered from any slowdowns or other issues when multiple people started using the network. Of course, a device such as this cannot fix issues with providers or improve a slow subscription speed, but the FRITZ!Box 4060 can certainly be a valuable asset for your setup. We recommend checking this one out, if you want to modernize your home network. For all specs, we suggest checking out the product’s official website by clicking here.
