We recently tried out AVM’s new repeater, and we loved working with it. While the AVM devices truly shine when they work with other AVM products, we still came to the conclusion that the FRITZ!Repeater 3000 was a top-notch product. Now, we get to take a look at the updated AX version of the FRITZ!Box 7530, which we reviewed back in 2020. As a whole, not that much has changed, except for the inclusion of smooth WiFi 6 functionalities. If you wish to catch up on the FRITZ!Box 7530, you can do so by clicking here. We will be doing a short rundown below, perhaps making it easier for you to know if this is a useful upgrade for your current setup, or if you should wait a bit longer for a few more functions.

In terms of design, nothing has really changed, and the glossy white device, with a few touches of red, is still very suitable for every type of interior. The device is fairly small and light, making it easy to place on a proper surface. Installing the device works just like you’d set up any other router, and the manual clearly depicts what you have to do. We do have to mention that AVM’s manual and the packaging feels a bit old-fashioned and it might not easily attract younger users. While the latter may be a personal remark, the cellphones depicted in the manual are the ones that were used nearly two decades ago.

The router has some Ethernet ports available for traditional LAN connections, but with its WiFi 6 capabilities, you’re pretty much in for a treat. If you have a very good internet subscription, you’ll be able to take advantage of the buttery smooth WiFi 6 connection this device has to offer. When used in combination with devices such as the FRITZ!Repeater 3000, you’ll immediately have a big zone covered and you can then opt to use the Mesh technology that allows you to create one big network, without having to fill in a new password for the repeater’s access point.

Compared to a stock router, our latency went down significantly, and we were able to play competitive games, such as Call of Duty: Vanguard, without a hitch. If you have a decent subscription, a router such as this does get the most out of it. If you have a cheaper internet connection, upgrading to a better router will probably not make a difference, as your upload and download speed are probably very limited anyway. As always, hardware such as this doesn’t make a budget-friendly internet subscription better, otherwise, everyone would be doing this. Nonetheless, it’s always worth looking into if you feel you’re not getting the speeds your provider promises you.

For this device, we’d also like to refer to the technical specifications page for those wanting to compare this device with their own router, or perhaps versus other candidates. This router is, of course, not a dedicated gaming router, but it will still present you with the latest technology and a better experience than an average stock router can. The Mesh functionalities are definitely a plus.

Conclusion

The FRITZ!Box 7530 AX is a great purchase if you’re stuck with a stock router, and are paying for an expensive internet subscription. In this scenario, a router upgrade may be recommended, as it will allow you to enjoy your streaming services better, play games with less lag, and just create a more pleasant and user-friendly experience. We can easily recommend this device, as it’s affordable, easy-to-use, and if you’re looking for a solution for your entire house, this one works great in combination with the FRITZ!Repeater 3000.
