Cardfight!! Vanguard Booster Pack 08: Minerva Rising

Recently Cardfight!! Vanguard’s standard format saw the release of the 8th set, Minerva Rising. This set brought back a few favorites from Cardfight!! Vanguard’s past, namely Omniscience Regalia, Minerva, Silver Thorn Dragon Tamer, Luquier, and Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom. Those who have been playing the game from the start will probably immediately recognize these names and might still even have a deck or two of these Vanguards lying around.

The set includes 96 cards, excluding parallel versions of cards found in the set. Outside of the shiny artwork of the revived classic cards, there will also be new ridelines for the other nations, making sure old and new players can enjoy this set to the fullest. The artwork featured here is of top-notch quality and the new effects also add some welcome new builds to the game. The aforementioned three classics can be used both in the Standard and Premium formats, making them extra versatile for those playing different formats. Minerva focuses on her clairvoyance to look at the top card, while also having the ability Stand after attacking. Maelstrom goes all out with its number of attacks and can boost a Rear-Guard with the Stand effect as well. Luquier uses her legendary beast-tamer skills to conjure up a full field of Rear-Guards with boosted power.

The new ridelines in the deck include Peak Personage Stealth Rogue, Shojodoji and Monster Creator, Arkhite. Shojodoji focuses on binding his opponent’s Rear-Guards while also being able to call a strong Rear-Guard for an additional attack. The alluring Arkhite is a typical Brandt Gate deck that includes Set Orders to draw out its full power. Arkhite can summon Monsters and make them stronger.

Of course, all these aforementioned new Vanguards come with their own support. On top of that, the Glitter decks are receiving a hefty dose of love. Some underappreciated decks, such as Kheios, get a much-needed power boost and become heavy hitters. Many of the key Glitter support cards return in a Grade 1 form, working well together with other older cards from the aforementioned Glitter decks.

Honestly, there are many reasons to be hyped for the new set, be it for the old familiar Vanguards being revived or simply because of the fact that binding effects are once again becoming slightly more popular. The latter opens up new strategic plays and it presents new hurdles for current meta decks. As a whole, it makes the game a lot more versatile, and eventually, everyone will be able to find a fun and interesting deck they can build. With the upcoming Grade 10, things will be shaken up even more. Cardfight!! Vanguard is offering more and more diverse plays in the Standard format, and as it currently stands, the original ‘shticks’ for many of the different Vanguards stay relevant and simply work well. We are very much looking forward to the release of the upcoming set and we are curious to see how good the new builds will be then.
