Cardfight!! Vanguard Booster Pack 09: Dragontree Invasion

It feels like yesterday that we were still creating our Booster Pack 08 decks and it’s already time for Booster Pack 09. Cardfight!! Vanguard decides to offer us some new interesting ridelines in this new set, after revamping some classic old-school Vanguards in the previous one. The feared Grade 10 card will be included in the Dragontree Invasion, including many other interesting deck recipes.

The set includes 100 cards, excluding parallel versions of cards found in the set and reprints of older sets. Dragontree Invasion includes new ridelines and support for older deck profiles. Once again, the artwork is of top-notch quality, and the DSR cards for this set are simply amazing. This time we don’t have any classic Cardfight!! Vanguard cards being revived in this set and this means that all ridelines are brand new.

This set revolves around the illustrious Grade 10 Dragontree of Ecliptic Decimation, Griphogila, Lavien Lord, Granfia, Blue Deathster, “Skyrender” Avantgarda, Diabolos, “Viamance” Bruce, and Almajestar, Astroea゠Unica. Each of these decks brings some new abilities to the battlefield. Griphogila does have a slower buildup, but the card is able to trigger its Over Trigger without having to perform a drive check for it. Granfia revolves around Plant Tokens and powering its Rear-Guards with them. Avantgarda introduces Strategy Set Orders for Brandt Gate, and the fearsome Vanguard is able to Stand again after attacking, if some conditions are met of course. Bruce gets a new form and this time Final Rush makes way for Final Burst, a new power-up effect that is also in effect during its opponent’s turn. Last but not least, there is Unica who binds Critical Triggers in order to become stronger.

A special shoutout goes to Operate Master, Freiheitz, which is a Brandt Gate card that can be useful in basically every Brandt Gate deck. Not only does this card give such a massive power boost to the Blitz CEO, Welstra decks, but it also allows you to search for your Persona Ride in other Brandt Gate decks. Even so, the biggest boost is given to Welstra, as you are now able to place Mobile Fortress of Obliteration, Freischutz Maximum in the Order Zone on your first Grade 3 turn.

Even though some older decks got some much-needed love in Booster Pack 09 and we were also given quite a few cool new ridelines to play with, we are also very curious to see what is on the horizon for the decks that revolve around the Dragontree Markers. That being said, we do see a few new decks being added to the current meta list with the release of this new set, and as always, the chances are ever-increasing that you’ll play against so many different decks that the game is as interesting as ever. We see more and more original mechanics being thrown into the mix, and we hope to see many more in the upcoming sets. We still hope a few older decks will get a power boost so we do not see certain decks fade into the background.
