Major update ‘Calm Before the Storm’ for Barotrauma is out now!

The latest major update for the side-scrolling undersea pressure cooker Barotrauma is now live on Steam. Barotrauma is developed by Undertow Games and FakeFish and is a 2D co-op submarine simulator. The new update for this game, Calm Before the Storm, brings with it another batch of improvements and tweaks, all designed to make sure that you’re never really safe under the ice of Europe.
The update introduces a number of important new features. Firstly, a Reserve Bank for Permadeath mode is introduced, allowing players to recruit bots to stand by and use them when needed. Next, players will be able to explore new ruin modules and take on the ‘Lost in Ruins’ mission, which encourages deeper exploration of the alien remains. An alien ruin-themed outpost has also been added to the Outpost Deathmatch mode for more variety in PvP encounters. In addition, level backgrounds have been updated, and new loading screen artwork has been added to enhance the game’s atmosphere. Finally, long-time community modder NotWendy has added 14 new modules for abandoned outposts.
The update also brings a number of gameplay and system improvements. Jovian radiation is now less punishing in the early stages and more dangerous in the later stages. The Remora has been reworked. Minor changes have also been made to the Kastrull and Winterhalter subs. Fixes have been added to ladders, aiming, fire response, and more, greatly improving the bot experience. Lastly, they’ve also fixed performance issues and bugs.
The update is now available to all players on Steam. For those who want an early look at the upcoming content, there is also a public beta running on the ‘Unstable’ branch.
