While we usually focus on gaming hardware, sometimes other items still get featured on the site because we found them highly relevant. This also brings us to a fairly original review here on the site, namely that of MERACH’s S38B2 Magnetic Exercise Bike with LCD Display. In the spirit of combining gaming with health, we are taking a closer look at this Exercise Bike, and we will examine the app soon as well. The latter does offer training programs, similar to those found in certain games, so if you’re looking to get some exercise in while gaming or watching your favorite shows, then read on to find out if this exercise bike is something for you.
Design
While some people may not necessarily care that much about how their exercise equipment looks, it’s still quite nice when your equipment suits your interior. In the case of the S38B2 Magnetic Exercise Bike, the device looks rather spiffy. You’ll be treated to an almost futuristic-looking exercise bike with a solid black frame with a few red accents to spice things up. Underneath the plastic black casing, there’s a solid frame. Finishing touches can be found in the small LCD and the tablet holder. All in all, the S38B2 Magnetic Exercise Bike is a good-looking device, with a somewhat futuristic vibe.
Comfort
In terms of comfort, you do have a few features that make things a bit more pleasant. For starters, you’ll have the two-way adjustable handlebars (up and down) and the four-way adjustable seat (up, down, back, and front), which can adjust the bike to your personal preferences. According to the product page, the bike is aimed towards people between 144 cm and 188 cm tall, supporting a weight of up to 136 kg. The seat itself is also fairly comfortable, as it is reasonably soft and doesn’t heat up too much during longer training sessions. The bike also comes with a tablet and phone holder, as well as a drink holder. If you want to move the exercise bike, you can tilt it via the handlebar and then use the small wheels at the front support of the bike.
Overview
The moment the bike is assembled (more on that below), you’re pretty much set up forever. When adjusting the seat and handlebars to your personal preference, you can start working on your training. The LCD display shows you everything you need to know, and you can adjust the different resistance levels. The pedals also come with straps, which you can adjust to the shoes you’re wearing. Everything feels solid and smooth, and the exercise bike is really quiet. You’ll barely hear the rotations of the flywheel, which is certainly nice if you want to watch a show while exercising. We mainly enjoyed having a proper tablet holder, as it made it easier for us to zone out during our training and actually commit to longer training sessions this way.
The bike also has great app support via the official MERACH app. You’ll first need to register, and you’ll also need to pair your training equipment to your phone to use it. After that fairly short initial setup, you’re good to go. The app offers interesting training programs for all different training levels. We tried out several beginner courses, but we have also looked into more advanced training programs. Outside of traditional programs, there are also scenic routes and even game-like experiences where you’re dropped in a fantasy setting. There’s enough variety to keep things interesting. The bike also has a decent rest for your phone or tablet. If you decide to use the app, you’ll also see your stats on your phone, providing feedback on speed, calories burned, and more. We were quite impressed.
While we have enjoyed pretty much everything the S38B2 Magnetic Exercise Bike threw at us, we do have to mention that the assembly process was a bit frustrating. Don’t get us wrong, the manufacturers included everything you needed in the box, but we encountered a few issues. Our main problem was that one of the screw threads on the pedals was not made properly, making it necessary to apply excessive force to get the pedal in. Secondly, one of the screws to mount the LCD to the steering wheel was inside the LCD case for some reason. We then had to find other tools to open the case to retrieve the missing screw. While in the grand scheme of things, these weren’t big issues, they were frustrating enough to warrant a mention.
Conclusion
MERACH’s S38B2 Magnetic Exercise Bike with LCD Display is certainly a worthwhile investment if you’re looking for some new exercise equipment. The bike can be customized to the user, and there are several additional features, such as app integration, phone and tablet holder, and a comfortable seat, to make sure you get the best experience for a fairly affordable price.
