NVIDIA launches RTX Remix Open Beta

As of today, modders have the opportunity to download the new NVIDIA RTX Remix Open Beta for free, allowing them to experiment, create, and provide feedback to enhance the experience leading up to the full release. A comprehensive “Getting Started” guide is also accessible on GeForce.com. RTX Remix is presented as a game-changing modding tool by NVIDIA. This platform empowers modders to remaster their favorite classic games with full ray tracing (also known as path tracing), NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex, modern physically-based rendering (PBR) assets, and generative AI texture tools.

Built on NVIDIA Omniverse, RTX Remix serves as an end-to-end platform for remastering DirectX 8 and 9 games with fixed pipeline features. The current list of compatible games can be found on the community’s compatibility list on ModDB, and technical information on compatibility is detailed in the Remix documentation. Remix comprises two components: an application for creating lighting and adding remastered assets to a game scene, and a runtime for recording classic game scenes and injecting the remastered assets into the game during playback. RTX Remix has already demonstrated impressive remasters in NVIDIA’s Portal with RTX and the modder-created Portal: Prelude RTX. Orbifold Studios is now utilizing RTX Remix for the development of Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project, a community remaster of one of the best-reviewed games of all time. The latest Half-Life 2 RTX gameplay trailer, which you can view below, showcases their Remix updates for Ravenholm.
