Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening takes off today!
Today sees the release of Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening, a modern video game adaptation of Buichi Terasawa’s classic manga and the 1982 animated series produced by TMS. Developed by Magic Pockets and published by Microids, the game retells the first 12 episodes of the anime, including Captain Nelson’s treasure arc. Players step into the role of Cobra, the fearless adventurer with a cybernetic arm housing the iconic Psychogun, joined by his partner, Armaroid Lady. The adaptation aims to stay faithful to the original work’s mix of science fiction, action, and humor, while introducing modernized gameplay and visuals designed to appeal to both long-time fans and new audiences.
The game features a variety of modes and mechanics that blend action-platforming with narrative-driven exploration. Players travel across diverse planets, confronting enemies and overcoming environmental challenges using Cobra’s full arsenal, including the Colt Python 77, gadgets like a grappling hook, and signature items such as his cigar. Enemies include familiar antagonists such as Crystal Bowie and the Royal Sisters, enhancing the sense of continuity with the anime. Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening is available in both digital and physical editions, including limited and deluxe versions with bonus content such as artbooks, additional missions, exclusive character skins, and a digital soundtrack. Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, with a demo out as well.
