It’s no secret that we love movies, comic books, video games, and card games, and we enjoy all the merchandise that comes with them. Often, one of the key components of a serious collection is the inclusion of premium collectibles, such as statues, signed props, and of course, replicas. While we might not be covering an exact replica for our following review, we’re still getting quite close. Today we’ll be discussing Star Wars’s The Black Series The Mandalorian Premium Electronic Helmet Roleplay Collectible. As this is a mouthful, we’ll refer to the collectible as The Mandalorian Helmet from now on.

You’ll have to bear with us, as we are treading into new territory with this review, as it just happens to be our first full-fledged collectible review. That being said, we are happy to start off with an impressive collectible that Hasbro Pulse has manufactured. As we have little experience with helmet replicas or roleplay collectibles in this case, we were quite impressed by the box size as a whole. Upon opening the sturdy box with cool artwork, we were presented with a shiny version of the Mandalorian helmet we have come to love from the Star Wars universe. The helmet itself is made out of thick and solid plastic, and the finishing touches are just impressive. Upon very close inspection, you’ll notice that this is of course not a real piece of armor, but from a few feet away it does look like the real thing. The level of detail is amazing, not only for the exterior but also for the interior.

On the outside, you’ll have a very clean and tinted visor, the correct protrusions, the finishing touches on the side, and even the battery compartment that has been neatly embedded into the design. On the right side, you can remove a small part of the helmet to open up the battery compartment. You’ll need a screwdriver to do so after removing the initial cover. One triple-A battery suffices to power the removable flashlight, meaning you can either use the helmet with or without it. If you wish to utilize the flashlight, you’ll first have to remove another small component on the right side of the helmet in order to attach the light. Attaching it is very easy, but you’ll need to tilt the add-on correctly into the assigned slot(s). When you have the correct battery inserted and successfully attach the module, you’re good to go. We were actually impressed with the overall strength of the flashlight, as we were able to find our way in the dark on easy terrain. However, we don’t recommend tackling harder terrain with the helmet on. We’ll get into why that is, below.

On the interior, you’ll see intricate details that would remind one of an actual sci-fi helmet. You’ll also notice a harness-like contraption on the inside that will secure the top of your head into place. You’ll also see small squares of rubber padding, which also provide another layer of comfort. There are two LED lights on the inside as well, but this isn’t really noticeable when wearing said helmet, and they actually only activate when holding the helmet upside down. The Mandalorian Helmet itself is surprisingly comfortable. We tried the helmet on for longer durations of time, and we could easily do general tasks with it on. We were able to stay aware of our surroundings, most outside noise wasn’t blocked out, and our range of vision wasn’t too restricted. We also noticed that there was no condensation when breathing inside the helmet, which is also very nice. Only looking down proved a bit more annoying to see where we were walking in slightly rougher terrain. Even so, the visor is clear, and we even typed part of this review with the helmet on to see how well we would be able to operate an ATM or phone at a convention. We didn’t struggle to put the helmet on, even though yours truly doesn’t have a smaller head size. When looking upwards, your nose might be slightly squished against the interior of the helmet, however. The weight wasn’t too bad either.

As this is also a cosplay item, it could be used for conventions as well. We do want to warn you that some upkeep is required, and you’ll probably also have to be careful not to damage the helmet at busy conventions or gatherings. We didn’t immediately notice small surface scratches during our test, which is of course a plus. What we did notice, however, were very clear smudges and fingerprints from just handling the helmet, even with very clean hands. Luckily, the general upkeep is very easy and simple, and you can easily wipe the surface clean with a standard microfiber cloth.

Conclusion

The Mandalorian Premium Electronic Helmet Roleplay Collectible is a great functional collectible cosplay prop with a premium finish. We reckon the item will still mostly be purchased for display purposes, but we loved the idea of using the helmet for conventions or even Star Wars meetups. The build quality is great, the attention to detail is amazing, and it looks like the real thing. Even though items like this require a reasonable investment, it will not disappoint even the biggest Star Wars fans.
