It’s been a while since we took a closer look at The Black Series The Mandalorian Premium Electronic Helmet Roleplay Collectible, which quite impressed us. We were perhaps a bit out of touch regarding collectible roleplay items such as this, as we expected a clunkier prop rather than something so functional. Even so, while the Mandalorian helmet did get its nice spot in our collection, we were offered an even more premium item by Hasbro Pulse for our following review. Today, we’ll be discussing our experience(s) with The Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Elite Lightsaber Roleplay collectible.

While we are fans of everything Star Wars and while not every entry in the series is as amazing as we’d want them to be, we still enjoy the surge in content that is available to us. For today’s review, we’ll be going back to basics, as it’s none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber we’ll be taking a closer look at. To be precise (we had to look it up ourselves), it’s his third lightsaber, according to various lore sources. It’s the lightsaber we have seen quite a few times in different media, and we were quite stoked to get our hands on it (quite literally).

The design is great, and so is the build quality. We weren’t sure what to expect, but when we opened the box we were surprised by the metal hilt with so many intricate details. The accuracy is off the charts, and every small indentation and color difference can easily be spotted. The on/off switch is also neatly embedded into the design. The collectible feels solid, and it looks great on display. There are two different metallic ‘top parts’, namely one for when the light ‘tube’ isn’t connected and one for when it is. In the first scenario, you’ll be treated to the actual movie-accurate design, with the somewhat thinner top. When the saber is actually attached, the top part of the hilt is slightly thicker, to allow the saber to go through and to attach it safely. Thanks to this, the saber remains neatly in place and the metallic top part ensures it cannot fall out. It’s only a tiny difference compared to the normal design, but it does make the lightsaber functional.

Outside of the amazing aesthetic of the lightsaber, it also comes with a slew of sound effects to create an authentic Star Wars experience from the movies and series. The lightsaber will react to movement, and there’s a button on the hilt that can be pressed too. Depending on the position you’re holding the prop, you’ll hear different audio playing. It’s a fun touch, and it works quite well. For the effects, you’ll need three triple-A batteries. The compartment for the batteries is neatly tucked inside the hilt, and it’s easily accessible by unscrewing the bottom part of the hilt. We did notice that the switch to turn on (or off) the lightsaber is extremely sensitive.

Remember that this amazing-looking lightsaber is a collectible of cosplay prop first and foremost. This means that you will not be able to order any spare parts when you (inevitably) start whacking annoying siblings, rowdy neighbors, and the occasional burglar in the head. We suggest looking into the recent Star Wars games for some lightsaber action and a force-choke or two to eliminate that excess stress. We find it a shame that parts cannot be back-ordered, as an accident can easily happen. Keep in mind that this cool collectible will set you back roughly 350 Euros.

There is very little maintenance required here for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Elite Lightsaber. If you do use it for cosplay purposes, it’s easy to wipe off fingerprints and other smudges with a microfiber cloth. Most fingerprints aren’t even visible on the hilt, except on the very glossy parts. Even then, you can easily show off your collectible without fearing it will get too dirty. Small scratches are also not easily visible, and with the metallic hilt, they might even make the prop look more battle-worn. The collectible also comes with a display stand, making sure you have a proper way of showing off your cool lightsaber.

Conclusion

The Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi Force FX Elite Lightsaber is a great collectible for Star Wars fans who truly want movie-accurate props displayed in their collection. While this item is also great for cosplay, you best keep in mind that parts cannot be purchased separately in case you have an accident during a crowded convention. Nonetheless, the level of detail is amazing, the additional functions are cool, and the solid metal hilt is the icing on the cake. We are massive fans of these types of props when they are done right. In this case, Hasbro Pulse has nailed it.
