Looking back at our review of Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator, our taxi-driving adventure didn’t pan out the way we wanted it to. Our progress was slow, the game’s performance was subpar, the AI was horrible, and the overall gameplay ended up being rather bland. Luckily, developer Simteract has not given up on their project, as several patches were released, and now a new DLC has hit the digital shelves. This time, we won’t be taxiing people, but we’ll trade in small talk with the passengers for delivering packages instead. While things have improved a bit, this is still not the DLC that fully redeems Taxi Life.

We’re going to be honest here: this isn’t going to be a very long review, as the Delivery Driver DLC doesn’t change things that much. You’ll get a new truck, there are now warehouses on the map where you can pick up packages for your delivery route, and that’s pretty much it. When driving to a warehouse, you can select packages that correspond to your load, and then the game will show you your ideal delivery route. It’s fairly standard stuff, but it feels more polished than driving around passengers. Don’t fret, however, because your truck still has seats for passengers. This makes it fun to combine both jobs without constantly having to swap your car.

The developer must have realized that progress was slow in the base game, as you’re getting exorbitant amounts of money for delivering packages, especially when you’re driving around fragile items. You often get several hundreds of Euros for just dropping off a package two hundred meters down the road. It’s a bit silly, but it does give you an easier way to build up your company and afterwards perhaps enjoy driving around passengers more. In terms of how quickly you can make a buck, this is certainly a great update, but we do feel like this should have been free DLC. As it stands now, you’re paying an additional ten Euros on top of the base game, simply for the title to be slightly more interesting and amusing. For this additional cost, everything should have been polished a lot more, as the game’s performance isn’t always up to snuff either. On top of that, the DLC has new cinematics for when you drop off packages, but these are extremely short and feel rushed, and they sometimes cut out at awkward moments.

Conclusion

Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator – Delivery Driver is a way to make the base game slightly more attractive and entertaining, but it felt like a somewhat meager attempt to make it seem as if the game had a lot more to offer. Delivering packages is fun for a short while, but there’s not much to it. This DLC serves more as a solution for not having to deal with annoying digital customers as well as an option to earn money quicker to build up your company quicker. While it’s commendable that the developers are clearly still working on their ambitious project, this DLC should have been free or far cheaper than it currently is.
