Yono, the “Slain Swordsman” is the League of Legends’ next champion
“Every myth carries a seed of truth. A slain swordsman must decide if he will make peace with his past — or be consumed by it.” Riot Games introduced its next champion with this mysterious Twitter post, from the League of Legends official account, on July 15th. The accompanying animated trailer, “The Path, an Ionian Myth”, is rather long: 3′ 40″ of dramatic scenes from Yono‘s past life. The new Masked Assassin could soon become familiar to players in the best NJ online casinos too, since the eSports bill is moving forward. New Jersey is set on the ambition of attracting more gaming tournaments like the ones that were held in Atlantic City in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
As for Yono, Riot Games has not yet confirmed his name nor that he is indeed Yasuo’s older half brother, as popular wisdom believes.
LoL‘s fans had been awaiting the new hero since Easter. Riot Games published a “Champion Roadmap: June 2020” on the developers’ blog, announcing “a dreamy jungler, masked assassin, and thrill-seeking marksman.” The post let readers slip into the Slain Swordsman skin for a minute, under the heading ‘An Out of Body Experience’: “D-did I fall asleep? Am I dreaming? The last thing I remember was purple dust and the sound of someone skittering away. Where am I? I feel a presence inside me—something dark yet dormant. Something I subdued. Is that masked figure in the distance… me?”
The stage is set for inner conflict, resurfacing memories of a past life, ancient trauma. “I’m holding two weapons. I recognize one of them, and the presence inside me recognizes the other. I temper my rising anger into something cold, like the steel in hand. Suddenly I feel a spiritual tug from the direction of the masked figure—from me? The tug becomes a yank, and I feel my subconscious pulled toward my body, accelerating until— I slam into it!”
This short glimpse certainly looks like the script for the freshly released animated teaser. In the trailer, the swordsman awakes in a spirit world. A blue-tailed foxed appears and leads the champion, who has lost his weapons, to a magical tree. But he is diverted from his quest by a demon and engages in a fierce battle with him. Apparently, we are witnessing the symbol of internal conflict here. The hero wins the sword fight, but the demon bites him and poisons his soul.
While the teaser was still in the making, data miners were busy leaking all sorts of details: splash art, voice files and more. Excitement has been rising on the lolYoneMain subreddit for days. The clue to the new champion’s identity is to be found in Thresh’s new voice lines. The new Spirit Blossom skin gave Thresh a new voice-over. Here are the revealing lines: “Yone, the elder son overshadowed by his younger brother. How could you possibly rest in peace?” And more: “Worry not, Yone. your little brother is safe with me.”
An official release date for the Masked Assassin has not been announced yet, but the current hypothesis is that he will be included in Patch 10.16. T on August 5th.
