Eidos-Montréal released a new video in which the developers share more about the inspiration and talents behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s soundtrack. The video also demonstrates how ’80s pop and rock masterpieces come together with gameplay, in an innovative in-game mechanic, the Huddle.

The soundtrack to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy brings together three different musical styles: epic orchestral music, an all-star mixtape of licensed ’80s tracks, and an original rock album created especially for the game. In the video, Steve Szczepkowski, senior audio director at Eidos-Montréal, describes how he and his team fused these elements into a unique musical experience with a music-based gameplay mechanic.

Steve reveals how Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s captivating orchestral music, written by BAFTA-nominated composer Richard Jacques, gives the game an epic, cinematic feel. Recorded at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios, this orchestral music includes nearly six hours of original music to guide players on their heroic and often emotional journey across the galaxy. Great care has been taken to blend the orchestral music with the other music genres in the game for a seamless transition between blockbuster orchestral moments and licensed hits.

The Huddle

The unique Huddle feature adds an extra dimension to the licensed soundtrack by allowing players to use certain songs during battle. When the player presses the play button on Star-Lord’s cassette player during battle, a specially chosen 80s hit will sound to inspire and encourage the Guardians.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on October 26th, 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. In addition, the game will be available digitally for PC and streaming via GeForce NOW. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cloud Version for Nintendo Switch will also be released on October 26th in some regions. As of now, the game can be pre-ordered via the official website.
