DayZ tips: your survival guide to the zombie apocalypse
DayZ is one of those games that have grown popular as time passes, and it would not take someone pondering for more than a couple of seconds to understand why that is the case. The plotline of DayZ is that the player is trapped in a post-Soviet republic state called Chernarus, where there is an outbreak of a deadly and mysterious plague. Sounds a bit familiar to the current times? The outbreak has infected and turned most of the inhabitants of this region into violent zombies. The player has to survive in the post-apocalyptic world, scavenge the world for food, medicine, water, all that while escaping the horde of zombies that are hell-bent on killing them and also other players who would not hesitate in killing the player and taking their supplies.
Sound easy, right? Sadly, it is anything but. DayZ is one of the most harrowing games for beginners as, more often than not, a beginner would not last for more than five minutes. If the zombie doesn’t kill them, then something else would. If this is something that is happening to you, then the following are some DayZ game hacks that would help you survive in DayZ.
- Accept that you are going to die.
Now, this might seem counterintuitive as the aim is to survive for as long as possible, but it is highly likely that if you are a beginner, you are going to die in your first few tries at least. And it is perfectly alright, do not let this bother you and stick to your strategy. Survivor games are about finding the best strategy that would help you survive for the longest time and make improvements on that. Embrace the fact that your first couple of tries is not going to yield the best results and use that opportunity to understand the lay of the land better.
- Find food
Many survivor games focus on evading or killing zombies for as long as possible, but DayZ is entirely different in that regard. It is a pure survivor game when zombies are not the only problem facing the individual; food and water are essential for survival in DayZ. The aim of DayZ is to make the scenario as realistic as possible, so going without food and water for an extended period means certain death for the player, and no one wants that. That is why a gamer must gather food, water, and other necessary supplies on an immediate basis. Check out the houses on the map to gather necessary supplies and be quick about it, as food is very limited in DayZ, and other players are also scavenging for the same items.
- Head inland
More often than not, the gameplay starts with the player at the beach. Now, if you see items that would be of use to you, collect them immediately. Although, it is highly unlikely you will find anything useful as other players might have already scavenged it. After that, immediately head inland where the houses are. In houses, you will find essential items like food, water, and medical supplies. Skip the first houses, as they would already be checked out by other players that spawned before you.
- Search for a weapon
Unlike other survival games, when one spawns in DayZ, they have nothing essential with them. Finding essential supplies like food and water is the very first thing an individual has to do in DayZ, and the next thing is getting a weapon. For all the possibility of dying because of lack of food and water, zombies and other players as well are significantly more dangerous. Find anything that can be used as a weapon, a pipe, bats, and even hatchets from houses, sheds, garages, and try to defend yourself against the enemy. Although, fleeing is the obvious thing to do in combat if you can.
- Go straight
Since it is a game with no clear objective other than surviving for as long as possible, you can choose a destination and head towards it without overthinking the gameplay. There is another benefit of going in a straight direction as it makes sure that the gamer is not going round and round in a circle and has lost their sense of direction in the woods.
- Loot
If you have to fight another gamer or a zombie, make sure you look for their loots after winning. Open up your inventory and check the vicinity; you will find items that are on the downed player or the zombie.
