With the recent release of the Switch 2 also comes a lot of new accessory options, such as protective cases, screen protectors, docking solutions, battery packs, and so on. JSAUX is one of those brands that releases a lot of accessories for handheld devices, such as the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally, and it came as no surprise that the company was also investing resources into Switch 2 accessories. One of their most recent releases is the ModCase for Switch 2, of which we received the ‘Ultimate Kit’ for reviewing purposes. We tried out the kit for a few weeks and were surprised by the overall quality.

Design

It’s a bit harder to describe the design of the whole set fully, but it’s easy to say that everything forms a good-looking whole. You’ll be treated to mainly matte black-finished components that have a quality look to them. The protective cover of the case looks sturdy and rather cool, and so does the back. The case itself also has proper grip handles, making your Switch 2 look more like something similar to a Steam Deck. The added kickstand, grip, and other accessories also look great. The Dock Adapter also looks stylish and looks great paired with the official Nintendo Dock. You’ll need the Dock Adapter if you’re using the ModCase, as with the case, your console will not fit inside the official dock anymore.

Comfort

Comfort-wise, we were pleasantly surprised by the ModCase and its accessories. For starters, the case itself and the added grips were really pleasant to work with, and it gave us the impression we were holding a proper controller rather than thin Joy-Cons. We found it easier to play for longer periods of time, without having the feeling that we were pressing down too hard on our console. The texture is also rather pleasant and provides more grip. Even with the casing slightly overlapping the Joy-Cons, the buttons are still easily accessible without the case being in the way or becoming a nuisance. The case’s ‘lid’ is sturdy and easy to attach, without feeling as if it would slide or fall off. On the interior of the case lid, there are slots for Switch 2 cartridges. This is a nice bonus. Sadly, scratches and markings show easily on the top part of the case, which was disappointing. Even gently tapping the exterior with your nails would already leave markings that we couldn’t wipe off.

The Dock Adapter and stand are also fairly easy to use, as you’ll just have to insert the adapter inside the original Switch 2 docking station, and you’re good to go. The stand easily allows your Switch 2 with the attached ModCase to stand upright, but the small cable slot was a bit of a hassle. The cable would often not stay neatly inside the slot, and you’ll have to manually attach the cable if you played in handheld mode before docking. This does take a bit of the normal convenience of a docking experience away, but it wasn’t really a big issue; we simply found it worth mentioning.

Accessories such as the MagSafe Phone Mount Mod are fun additions and are easy to attach via the slide-on mount on the back of the case. If you have a MagSafe phone (case), you can easily attach your phone, and you have a second screen above your Switch 2 to display a map from a companion app, or just one of your favorite shows when playing a more casual title. There’s also a magnetic ‘sticker’ included to help users without a MagSafe phone. The kickstand is also solid and easy to work with, and the same counts for the strap add-on. Everything is easy to add, which ups the overall convenience factor.

Overview

Truth be told, there’s not that much to tell here. It’s easy to insert your Switch 2 in the case, and even the Dock Adapter is set up in mere moments. It’s extremely easy to swap add-ons, and all of them feel sturdy and like quality pieces to upgrade your Switch 2 experience. There is no complicated setup, nor is there any hassle to swap any of the attachments. It’s smooth sailing from start to finish, basically.

Conclusion

JSAUX’s ModCase for Switch 2 (Ultimate Kit) is a great accessory kit for your Switch 2 console. While traditional cases will probably also be sufficient for casual Switch 2 gamers, the ModCase does have an edge over the competition in terms of functionality, comfort, and appearance. We were treated to a sturdy case, comfortable grips, a cool exterior, and practical additions. We particularly liked the sturdy kickstand add-on and the MagSafe Phone Mount Mod, which both served us well while gaming on the go. We did regret how easily the case’s lid showed scratches, and we do hope that future versions have a slightly better material to prevent this. All in all, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck here, and if you’re looking for something else than a conventional carry case, we suggest checking this one out.
