Over the years we have featured quite a few products from Sennheiser, and we have yet to find a single bad product. While many of Sennheiser’s devices are premium-priced, they also don’t break that easily and many of the products we have received are still being used up to this day. Now, however, we’ll not be looking at another headset or a pair of Bluetooth earbuds, but we are taking a closer look at the Profile Streaming Set USB Microphone. While the name doesn’t immediately roll off your tongue, we were quite impressed by this premium microphone set for our gaming setup.

Design

As is always the case with Sennheiser’s devices, you’ll be treated to a very sleek and classy piece of hardware. In this case, you’ll get a solid matte black boom arm and a good-looking microphone. The package doesn’t come with too many bells and whistles, which makes it easy to incorporate the Profile Streaming Set into all types of gaming or studio setups. The boom arm does have the Sennheiser brand name on the top part of the arm, and there’s also the Sennheiser logo on one of the joints, but other than that, there are no real noticeable features. On the microphone, you’ll also find the logo on the front, as well as the brand name and the ‘Profile‘ name on the back. The device has two LED lights, one to indicate that your microphone is active, which will turn red when the microphone is muted. Another red LED circle will light up as well when the microphone is muted.

Comfort

In terms of comfort, the Profile with its boom arm will ensure you have the best experience possible. The boom arm is quite solid and sturdy, and while it does take a bit of effort to position everything correctly for your set-up, it all falls into place when you’re all done. The boom arm can be attached to a desk or table, and it has three joints, making it a very flexible accessory. The dials on the Profile itself are clear and the LED lights will always show you if the microphone is muted or live. The cable of the device can be embedded into the frame of the arm, making for a rather neat setup.

Specs

  • USB-C powered (MacOS/iPadOS/Windows/Android)
  • Cardioid condenser capsule for professional sound and off-axis rejection
  • Adjustable tilt function with self-locking joint for optimal positioning
  • Soft-touch mute button with LED ring to indicate when engaged
  • Gain control with LED ring to indicate power and audio clipping
  • Mix control for balancing microphone and device level
  • 3.5 mm headphone output for audio monitoring
  • Headphone volume control
  • Robust metal housing and premium finish
  • Profile Streaming Set includes microphone, boom arm with integrated cable management, 3 m USB-C cable, and mic pouch

Overview

The Profile is a plug-and-play device that allows you to be up and running within a few seconds. Keep in mind, the microphone only comes with a USB-C plug and it does not have a USB-C to USB adapter in the box. This is something you’ll need in case you don’t have any USB-C ports on your desktop computer or other devices you wish to use the Profile on.

Truth be told, working with the device is very straightforward. There is also not that much to truly learn when it comes to operating the microphone. The mic has three dials for Gain Control, Mix Control, and Volume Control (for your headphones). Other than that, there’s a soft mute button that will have a red LED light up when your microphone is muted. You can also plug a headset into the back of the microphone, and that’s basically all there is you need to know.

People on the receiving end of your streaming sessions or those who listen to your recordings will receive crisp audio feedback. It’s clear that the device is of a high-quality nature, as voice recordings are crystal clear and there’s not that much background interference. Of course, the latter does heavily depend on what the noise levels of your surroundings are.

Conclusion

Sennheiser’s Profile Streaming Set USB Microphone is a great device for all types of streamers or podcast hosts. Not only is the device very attractive and sturdy, but it also provides viewers of your streams or listeners of your podcasts with crisp audio feedback. We perhaps found the boom arm to be a bit too stiff at times, but then again, we’d rather have a more solid piece of hardware than something that would not stay in place. As a whole, this package is being offered at a fair price for the great hardware you’ll be getting out of it.
