This year’s final information drop for Diablo IV is here!

Blizzard has provided this year’s final update on the development of Diablo IV. The official blog post, which you can find here, gives Game Director Joe Shely, Lead Systems Designer Joe Piepiora, and Lead Visual Effects Artist Daniel Briggs an opportunity to take a deep dive into several topics, including a first look at the itemization updates for legendary gear and class skills. You’ll also be able to find out more about the end-game character growth system and take a look at how Blizzard’s VFX artists create the different eye-popping visual effects when slaying monsters.

With the game’s heavy focus on combat customization through skill trees and Legendary Items, returning players will be happy to learn that Skill Rank Affixes on items make their glorious return. This gives players the opportunity to beef up or unlock skills through collected gear. Additionally, Legendary Powers are being revised, and will not be tied to a specific item type. What this means in practice is that the need to hunt for a specific item just to obtain a single coveted power is no longer a factor. Players can even destroy Legendary items, extract their powers and then transfer these to another piece of Rare or Legendary gear! The return of the Paragon system has also been confirmed, though major adjustments have been made to it. Now, the Paragon Board will be unlocked for each class as soon as players reach level 50. Different tiles with branching paths can be invested in, and players will be able to embed Glyphs they find throughout Sanctuary into their Paragon Board, gaining access to even more bonuses in the process.
